The Nature of God - Sunday 9/4

Just a heads-up to any of the folks who like to know where we're going before we venture out.

Sunday I'll be sharing from Genesis 1:1 & 1:26-31 and we'll be considering 'The Nature of God'. The nature of God will have an impact on the nature of our relationship with Him. As I've studied, a few observations that I've made look like this: God is eternal; God is relational; God is loving - AND we are made in His image. Do you see any of those things in the text? See you Sunday!

  • Regarding the nature of God ... it hit me the other day that when folks ask why would God allow such a horrible thing to happen, or where is God in the midst of adversity, I think I might have a clue. I am confident that without utter calamity, I would never be able to experience the unimaginable depths for God's compassion. His mercy, love, grace ... so many characteristics and attributes of God could not be experienced/learned in any other way. I might know in my head that God is my provider, but oh, when I am totally without resources, that's when I really experiencially know it. When I am lonely, His presence is so much more precious. I could not get to know various aspects of God's nature in any other way. Even the fall of man, Adam and Eve could not know God is good until they experienced evil. Could not truly understand His presence, until they had been removed from it.

That's my perspective on tragedy ... it is God's ifying glass into one or more of His attributes that I need most to expereince.
