Along The Way (30/December/2005)
Well, thanks for your prayers for my health, and please keep them up. I spent yesterday at an emergency care clinic and my chest xray confirms that I have double pneumonia. So, I am taking drugs and laying low and should be good as gold in a few days. The bad news is that I’ve had to back out of officiating my friends' wedding and I am broken-hearted over that. The very good news is that the happy couple’s own pastor here in Florida is able to do the ceremony, so at least all is in very good hands (Jen and Josh are all the safer now that I can’t break out one of my embarrassing wedding illustrations too!).
Shari and the girls got a treat from Mom, she sent them to see the Radio City Music Hall Rockette’s Christmas Program, complete with a tribute to Christ at the conclusion. As I read thru the Playbill tonight I noticed that they printed the poem One Solitary Life at the close of the program – very cool to see in this day when so much is being made of correctness.
So, on to trying to feel better. Thanks for your prayers – I suppose maybe this week is just about getting a little rest now. That is what I’m telling myself anyway.

Hey Darin-
Hope you are feeling better! I had the lung thing once and it was very painful! I hope your breathing eases and you start to come back soon!
Perhaps it will help to know what a wonderful impact you and Christ's Church have had on my growth and development as a newly created Christian. I was starting to think I wouldn't find a church in NH, when Dave recommended and we visited CCA.
I felt at ease right away, and was especially moved by your message. I like the way you think about God, and how well you communicate it. I was thinking Christmas Eve about how gifted you are as a story teller, and how you bring the message home to all of us, even the children. It was a joy to be there that night, and the children's program was priceless!
Christmas day I was struck by something else. When you were asking for prayer requests, and there was a woman in the back who was so upset she was unable to speak for a time - I was very moved by the quality and grace of your listening. By your steady attention, you gave me a glimpse of Chist-like compassion. It was a warm and sweet reminder to us all!
The heck with the critics, I loved having a service on Christmas morning! Thank you, and everyone who made the service work, for your dedication and faith. I was also happy to see the church was full - it spoke to me of a healthy community.
It was joyful for me just to celebraste Christmas together - I have so many blessings to give thanks for! It was wonderful to rejoice together and the music... was beautiful! Is it blasphemous to say it was heavenly? Inspiring, uplifting, angelic? It is definately one of the things that attracted us to the church - such a lively and talented music team! I am happy to report that it is only one of the many reasons we have stayed!
So thank you! I am not quite as new to this as your fictional "Robin," but I am new enough to this modern Christian world. I have found that beyond the PC Individuals there are PCC (Politically Correct Christians) who have scared me away in the past. I thank you and everyone else at Christ's Church for creating a safe place for worship, exploration and discovery. You have made me and my friends feel welcome and we thank you for it!
What was supposed to be a quick note turned lengthy...but since I can't dispense antibiotics I can at least give you good cheer!
Thank you for being a wonderful Pastor of a wonderful church!Have a wonderful time in Florida, and may the new year bring you greater joy and deeper faith and just enough laughter!
