Food For Thought

This is from Matthew Paul Turner's book The Coffeehouse Gospel. I'd recommend it.

"The end goal of my relationships with non-believers is not to share the Romans Road with them. The gospel is not the end of anything. It is the beginning of everything. It is in the middle of everything. Therefore I find that as I begin relationships, I am opening up the opportunity to share the gospel. As I merely dialogue with people on a real and honest basis, I am sharing the gospel. As I simply sit and listen to people I am sharing the gospel. One of my favorite quotes is from St. Francis of Assisi. He said, 'At all times share the gospel; when necessary, use words.'"

What do you think?

  • I find it amazing how God brings across such awesome oppurtunities to witness to people. I always hear the saying "They will know us by our love." Often times I find myself in a conversation not knowing how it started, but I can only account that to God. When we simply live our lives for God, it is a witness to other people. You do not need words to express love... "actions speak louder than words." I think it is so neat that when we just go about our everyday lives following after Christ, others take notice. I can't even tell you how many times since I've been in Pennsylvania that random conversations with kids I've never met before, or with my co-workers have come up. All I do is smile and listen, fold clothes and do my job, and God brings me oppurtunities. I really like this quote... I stand in awe of a God who doesn't need language to draw people to Him. It's like when we go to Namibia- the kids don't speak English, yet there is this bond. When I smile and look deep into their pained eyes I know that I am somehow saying that Jesus loves them... complete silence, yet a look that shows so much. that's so amazing! I also like his take of thinking of relationships as the beginning... The gospel gives us so many oppurtunities, so many new starts, and so much hope, and we should never come to a point where we think of it as another check mark in our favor.

neat stuff, thanks for sharing :-)
