Sunday's Study

What were your thoughts on our study of 1 Corinthians 10 Sunday? I never did get to my favorite verses (23 & 24) in the chapter. Here are the notes I used preparing for Sunday morning. You can listen to the audio file of the message here, or find both the notes and the audio file in the right hand menu. I'd love to hear from you.

I'll offer two questions to stir the pot a bit. (1) What do you think Paul meant when he said "for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come" in verse 11? (2) What application would you draw from verses 12 & 13? Click comments and help me turn monologue into dialogue.

  • Your first question seems to refer to the “us” who live in that time from Christ’s death and resurrection until his return. That included Paul, all of us now at CCA and those who will follow on after us. Paul is pointing out that God was not pleased with how the Israelites responded to his commands and directives. While we are no longer under the law; that same law makes it very clear to us also what God expects of us. Most importantly he wants us to be people of changed hearts not blind obedience to a set of rules.

Verse 12 contains a very important warning. None is in so much danger as one who thinks he can not fall into sin. That becomes pride and will trip us up quicker than almost anything. We are surrounded with many warnings, both from Scripture and from society. Yet we all somehow think, that won’t happen to me, I can get away with it, who will ever know, etc.

  • Great thoughts Ralph! Thanks for sharing them. I have been reading and re-reading verse 12. I wish I understood more clearly what Paul meant by the 'fulfillment of the ages has come'. There are some similarities in this wording with the term 'the kingdom of God' which has a sense of 'the ages' in it. Anyone else have any thoughts?
