Full Statement of Faith

At Christ’s Church of Amherst, everything we do is shaped by our trust in God and the truth He has revealed.

  • The Bible — We believe the Old and New Testaments are God’s inspired Word, His complete and trustworthy message for all people, and our final authority for faith and life.
  • God — There is one sovereign God, the Creator of all, perfect in every way, who exists eternally as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • Jesus Christ — God’s Son became fully human without ceasing to be fully God. He gave His life to pay for our sins, rose from the dead, and now reigns in heaven.
  • The Holy Spirit — God’s Spirit lives in every believer, guiding, teaching, and empowering us to follow Jesus and serve others.
  • Humanity — We were created in God’s image but turned away from Him. Sin separates us from God, and we cannot fix that on our own.
  • Salvation — Only God can save us, and He does so by grace through Jesus’ death and resurrection — not by anything we earn or deserve. Everyone who puts their trust in Christ is made new.
  • Baptism & Communion — We practice baptism and the Lord’s Supper as Jesus instructed, not as a way to earn salvation, but as a way we share life with Christ and remember his love.
  • The Church — All who trust in Christ are part of His one worldwide Church, expressed in local congregations where we grow, serve, and live out our faith together.
  • The Future — We look forward to Jesus’ return, the resurrection of the dead, and eternity — joy for those in Christ and separation from God for those who reject Him.

At Christ’s Church, we hold our core beliefs with conviction and joy, but we also recognize that faithful followers of Jesus may see some things differently. As the saying goes, “In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity.”

We strive to be conversational rather than combative — seeking unity in what’s clear in Scripture, freedom in matters of sincere debate, and grace in how we engage one another.

There are other important questions of faith and practice where we’ve taken thoughtful positions. Want to know where we stand on something specific? Just ask — we’d love to talk with you about it.
