Christmas 2016 - Home is Here (Page 9)

Snow, and mistletoe, and presents under a tree. Well-behaved children — and adults — gathered around the fire. The perfect gift; the perfect response. Visions of sugar plums, and…wait. Whose Christmas is this?!

Each December we log miles on the highway and points on our credit cards hoping to connect people, places, and longings. As we wrap our gifts and watch for snow, we can’t ignore the tension in our world and our relationships. We’re looking harder than ever for home.

But what if this Christmas, you didn’t have to search and shop and travel for that elusive holiday feeling? What if home was already, and always, here?

Whatever home and — church — have been to you this year, you are warmly invited to join us this Christmas season at Christ’s Church.

ADVENT SUNDAYS

December 4: When Home is Messy
December 11: When Home is Far
December 18 (Monologue Sunday)*: When Home Finds You
December 25 : When Home is Good

If you miss any of these Advent Sundays you can listen to recordings of the messages on Sermon~cast.

*On Monologue Sunday we take a break from our regular Sunday preaching to hear the Christmas story told dramatically, from the perspective of a historical, biblical character. Combined with Christmas carols and special music, the monologue is a great opportunity to invite friends to experience church in a new way. Who will this year’s character be? Join us December 18 and find out!

IDOP for the Persecuted Church

Sunday, November 6 is the International Day of Prayer for the persecuted Church. Christians around the world are facing persecution in unprecedented numbers. To get a better understanding of the extreme cases of persecution Christians in other countries are currently facing, take a look at the Open Doors World Watch List. Because we have freedom of religion in the United States, we can freely and openly worship Jesus Christ. Here at Christ’s Church we’ll be participating in the IDOP for the…

10 Days of Prayer

10 Days is an annual opportunity for the Body of Christ in your area to step away from normal routines of daily life and enter into an extended time of experiencing God together through worship, prayer, fasting, and fellowship. It’s a way for all the believers in your city to unite with Jesus at the center. It’s rooted in the 10 Days between the biblical Feasts of Trumpets and the Day of Atonement. 10 Days is intended to be part of the answer to Jesus’ prayer in John 17:21: “Let them…

Worship in the Park 2016 – The Name of Jesus

On August 21st, Christ’s Church joined with believers from over half a dozen other congregations at Keyes Field in Milford, NH to lift up the name of Jesus. A multi-church worship team led us in a time of praise music. We heard testimony about what God is doing as churches partner together to pray and to work together to care for our communities. Pastor Darrell VanWagner of River of Live brought a message from God’s word, challenging us to focus…

Icons: When Culture Whispers God’s Story

Celebrities. Musicians. Athletes. They’re the icons of our day– or at least, of the moment. The media saturates us with their stories: a viral music video, a quick rise to the top of the sports world, or NASDAQ. We see the headlines, and think, “really?” and then before too long we’re thinking, “wow, really.” We start following the stories thinking they’re just a guilty pleasure, but is there more? Woven into the stories, through the noise, and the hype, are…

Strong to the Finish

Since September, our Sunday messages have been all about Re-Discovering Jesus. We’ve taken a deeper look at Jesus’ teachings, his compassion, and his impact on human history – from Old Testament prophecy to his miraculous birth, sacrificial death, and life-giving resurrection. The final leg of this teaching journey is a series we’re calling, “Strong to the Finish.” For eight weeks in May and June, we’ll explore the ways Jesus is at work in our lives and world today, and how…

Stalled- A New Sermon Series

Have you run out of gas, spiritually? Things were cruising along just fine–a couple bumps in the road–until one day you realize the momentum is gone. The engine’s making a funny sound, and the maintenance light is on (again). Or maybe you’ve never really gotten your faith in gear. You see people moving along on their journeys, but you’re on the side of the road, watching, wondering what it would take for you to get going. Could you navigate life…

Really?!?…A New Sermon Series

Really?!? PEOPLE ACTUALLY BELIEVE THIS STUFF? Do you or someone you know have serious doubts about whether Jesus really lived, if the things he said are true, and whether that’s relevant to us today? Maybe you’re thinking, “People actually believe this stuff? Really?!?” We get your questions and your skepticism. And we take them seriously. Our January sermon series is built around answering some important questions about the historicity of Jesus, what it means for our world today, and what it…
